Baguio City, Philippines — April 25–26, 2025
Ethereum Philippines brought the next wave of blockchain education to Baguio with a two-day hands-on Ethereum Development Workshop at Informatics Baguio City Center. This event, led by organizers from Ethereum Philippines, Christine Erispe, Ray Gorgonio of JCI Baguio, and Informatics Baguio, provided local students, tech enthusiasts, and educators with the tools to start building decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts.
A Workshop Tailored for Beginners and Builders
Designed with accessibility and practicality in mind, the workshop curriculum focused on building actual skills rather than just theoretical knowledge.
Participants began by learning about the fundamentals of blockchain and the Ethereum protocol, with a particular emphasis on how smart contracts enable trustless, decentralized applications. The sessions then quickly moved into the hands-on phase, where attendees set up local development environments using Foundry and Node.js, wrote their first Solidity smart contracts, and deployed them on a test network.
Why It Mattered
The attendees were a mix of university students from Baguio and La Trinidad, freelance developers, and even non-technical professionals curious about transitioning to Web3.
Many expressed that they had previously been intimidated by the technical barrier of entry into blockchain but later found that learning Solidity and Ethereum are both accessible and empowering.
This speaks to a larger mission of Ethereum Philippines—to decentralize access to opportunity. By reaching cities like Baguio, the community is ensuring that Web3 doesn’t remain confined, but instead finds fertile ground throughout the archipelago.
Baguio in the Web3 Map
Baguio is more than just a mountain retreat. It’s a university town with a thriving youth population, creative culture, and longstanding civic engagement. These qualities make it a natural hotspot for decentralized innovation.
By introducing Solidity and dApp development here, EthereumPH is tapping into a wellspring of local talent—and giving them tools to build apps and protocols that reflect their own community’s needs and values.
Moreover, as blockchain applications evolve toward use cases like local governance, public records, and creator economies, regional voices will be crucial in shaping the technology’s future.
Building a Community Beyond the Code
The workshop also marked the beginning of stronger regional ties in Northern Luzon. Following the sessions, participants were invited to join the broader Ethereum Philippines Builder Network, where they can continue learning, contribute to open-source projects, or join upcoming events, hackathons, and grant programs.
Certificates of participation were awarded, and attendees also received NFT-based proofs of completion—an early form of on-chain identity that EthereumPH aims to expand in the near future.
